It’s that time of the year when we begin to falter on our New Year’s resolutions. If your 2023 resolutions have already shifted you from a “gung-ho, let’s go” attitude to “running on fumes,” pull off the freeway! Ding, ding, ding! Your body is talking to you.
Bounce Back on Track
The planets are beautifully aligned for the next four months making this the perfect time to pause and do an end-of-the-month review to tweak those intentions and make them more manageable. Even if you think you’re a pro at multitasking, research clearly shows that you can’t give 100% when you’re doing more than one thing at a time. Take that on faith for now and prioritize your top two or three projects. Then throw yourself into them — one at a time!
Never buy into the notion that scaling back equals quitting. Actually, right sizing your dreams and taking time to recharge your batteries is precisely what allows you to come back stronger, more focused and possibly more motivated than before.
Maybe you need another pair of eyes or hands. Tap a colleague or call in a favour and ask for assistance. There’s no need to waste your time or get frustrated with a project that would be better handled by someone other than you. Remember, we’re not here to go through life and its challenges alone.
Besides, all work and no play can make you anxious — and boring. What gets you motivated? Keep that on the list. If something no longer excites you, discard it. You’re likely not going to get it done anyway.
Mix it up!
The Universe is asking you to think outside of the box and replace some of those resolutions with some self-care. After all, life is all about balance and your health depends on it. What’s your guilty pleasure? Include more of that in your 2023 New Year list of resolutions.
So many of us (especially women) were taught that any form of self-indulgence was “selfish.” But, if you value your health, it’s absolutely mandatory to reward yourself on a regular basis. If not for yourself, then do it for your loved ones. (Cancerians, I am especially talking to you!)
Feeling lethargic? Energy begets energy, so let’s get physical. A brisk walk in nature works wonders. If building or nurturing relationships is on your list, why not use these walks to connect with your significant other or a friend from time to time? Too cold to go outdoors? Don’t let that stop you. Drop in on an early yoga class. Do some breathing and grounding exercises. There are plenty of free routines posted on YouTube. Choose one that appeals to you. Or put on your favourite music and take it to the dance floor — whatever makes you feel solid and connected inside of YOU!
Some find peace — and pleasure — when they are cooking or as they clean and organize their desk, office, drawer, closet, room, car, garage or house. Such tasks help them feel in control of their surroundings and eliminate angst, giving them a wonderful sense of accomplishment. If that’s your outlet, go for it. If not, reward yourself and hire a cleaning person to come in once a week or month to do the heavy lifting. On a community level, you’ll be contributing to the local economy, and that’s a good thing.
For others, switching up the scenery a bit is the answer. It may be a real vacation or a weekend retreat. Even a one-day road trip to another town can spark creativity. Consider the time and money it costs as an investment in your sanity.
Taking 15 to 30 minutes to meditate and journal daily is a wonderful way to tap into your emotional and spiritual body. Maybe it’s a warm bubble bath in the evening before bedtime or a monthly facial or massage at your favourite spa. Or learning something new, expanding your network of friends or volunteering.
Only you know what makes you truly happy and gets you motivated! Inject more of that into your daily routine. If rewarding yourself is foreign to you, begin with just one and see how everything and everyone around you magically adjusts in your favour.
And, if you’re not sure what excites you anymore, I’m happy to look at your natal chart to provide some inspiration.
